Stockton Tournament - 9/10/10 - vs. Butte

We arrived late and missed the first game of the match.  They're playing Butte College.  Looks like they lost the first game by a considerable margin.  This is a 16 team tournament being played over two days.  I'm still trying to figure out the format and play schedule.  The poster they have on the wall is a little confusing.  Play just starting in game 2.  Score tied 2-2.

They've hung in on this game, but late it's 17-22.  Hailey slaps one down to make it 18-22.  Butte misplays a serve, 19-22.  K9 is serving, we lose a battle at the net and it's 19-23.  19-24 as we misplay a quick set.  Block goes off of us and it's a 19-25 final.  We're down 0-2 in the match.  It's clear we can run with this team, we just need to reduce the self inflicted wounds.  Better passing on serve receive and let's get some offense going.  We're letting Butte control the tempo and that needs to change.

Game 3:  We're serving to start the game.  Judy gets it in and Butte hits long, 1-0.  Block goes out off of us, 1-1.  1-2 on a bad serve receive.  2-2 on a spike by Hailey.  Long rally and another block goes out, 2-3.  Another misplayed serve receive, 2-4.  And another one, 2-5.  Not sure of the call, but think they called a lift on us, 2-6.  Hailey slaps it down on someone's head, 3-6.  Great rally with several blocks and good hits, but it's 3-7.  Hailey gets another one, 4-7.  We let one fall, 4-8.  Megan D gets one to go, 5-8.  Taylor serving.  Butte gets one down line, 5-9.  Net serve, 6-9.  6-10 as we shank a dig.  Butte serves the net again, 7-10.  Judy serves, they call us in the net, 7-11.  Butte gets one in, 7-12.  Out on a free ball, 7-13.  Hailey sneaks one over to make it 8-13.  K9 serving.  We're late on the block and it's 8-14.  Hailey gets another one down, 9-14.  Brit serving. Great dig by Brit, Alisha slaps it down, 10-14.  Hailey stuffs one at the net, 11-14.  11-15 as the call us for an illegal back row attack.  butte net serves again, 12-15.  We're late on D and it's 12-16.  Butte serves out, 13-16.  Taylor serving.  Butte hits long, 14-16.  Timeout Butte.  We hit the net pole, 14-17.  Late on D again, 14-18.  We hit the net, 14-19.  Another one in the net, 14-20.  K9 gets one off the block to make it 15-20.  Alisha to serve.  Butte executes a nice C and it's 15-21.  Butte in the net, 16-21.  Ace, 17-21.  K9 gets one, 18-21.  Hailey and K9 with a stuff, 19-21.  Ace Ace baby, 20-21.  Got one in the net, 20-22.  Ugly dribbler over the net, 20-23.  Butte gets one in the middle, 20-24.  We misplay one on the back row and it's 20-25 final. 

Not the way you'd like to start a tournament, but we can improve on this.  They are close to getting some things fixed and I think a little more time on the court will help them jell.

Not sure what's in store for us now, probably need to pull a referee assignment and then we should play again this afternoon.
